Tragedy of the Common Man examines that the common man is the one who truly understands fear and, therefore, is best suited for the tragedy based upon his understanding of fear. The man whom is not considered common has an entirely different mindset, as he is above the normal thought, and fear. It is up to no one but the common man to come to the conclusion about his own morality and the extent he will go to in order to find it, further supporting leaving home. In leaving home the common man is opening himself up to more abstract ideas, which would allow him a higher reaching mindset, therefore it is possible the common man is able to change through leaving home.
Apocalypse Dreams is a song by Tame Impala, which relates to Tragedy of the Common man, as the lyrics state, “Do you really live without the fear?” This fear directly relates to the fear the common man knows so well, which he has grown accustomed to his whole entire life. The lyrics also say, “Well, am I getting closer? Will I ever get there? Does it even matter?,” connecting to the eternal struggle of the common man trying to find his rightful place within society.
