The Ox Cart Man qualifies the ideas of staying put. For all of his adult life, he has done the same thing every year, he builds a cart, stocks it with things from his farm, goes to a market and sells all of what he brought with him. The ox cart man is a creature of habit, meaning he will have roots at his farm his whole entire life, in order for stability for the future. He stays with what he knows, in order to stray away from the unknown, which can be enticing for someone who would leave home. The Ox Cart Man relates to Kerouac, by allowing the man to do what he thinks is best, he is adding to the story of America.
