We are all seeking the quintessential American Experience, which is what drives and influences this society the most. A country with the right to pursue Life, Liberty, and Happiness, written in our own Declaration of Independence. In an excerpt provided from Jack Kerouac’s novel On the Road, it was discussed that being on the open road is a chaotic, enjoyable adventure but eventually we seek to settle down; for it is in our genes to mature with time and for the movement of life to advance without us. In the line, “I realized these were all the snapshots which our children would look at someday with wonder…”(Kerouac), Kerouac is suggesting that maturity is important to human nature. In American culture we could not possibly have a bunch 40 year olds running around in tiedye, for who would run the government? We are influenced the most by the people who taught us about how society functions, so we are inclined to do the same for the next generations.
