In order to be successful in American Society in the past, one had to follow and achieve the American Dream. The Dream is not dying as stated earlier, it is changed for a new time period. However, when it is searched for now, the Dream cannot be found. It is very possible Americans are delusional in thinking a simple, idealistic dream is what they need to be fulfilled. By looking through different resources, conclusions have been made that maybe because all Americans strive for individuality now, that the dream has changed to be able to know yourself.
Since the common man was unable to ever achieve greatness or succeed, because he lacked ability to comprehend abstract ideas, the American people would effectively be changing themselves from common people to higher thinkers. According to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, the last thing needed for fulfillment of human life was experiences of purpose, those of which relate to knowing who you are and where you stand in the world. People would now do what they deem best to either put down roots or to leave home while they look for themselves. The American Experience is anything but typical, it is full of wondrous journeys to be told. Americans are always seeking the new, now they are seeking to find themselves.
